Attendance Policy
Regular attendance is required in all classes. Parents, students, faculty, staff, and administration of
Columbia Junior High School have identified student attendance as a basis for grading (RCW
28A.600.030). Excessive absenteeism for any reason could adversely affect a student’s progress in a class, even though average or above average work is done on days present.
The final semester grade for students with seven (7) or fewer absences in any class will not be altered. A student will have one percentage (1%) point deducted from his/her final grade for each
absence greater than seven (7) and less than eighteen (18). A student will have two percentage (2%) points deducted from his/her final grade for each absence from eighteen (18) up to twenty-two (22). A student with more than 22 absences in one semester will be denied credit for the course and receive an automatic ‘F’ grade. The student may remain in class for the opportunity to learn. Other details related to the attendance policy at Columbia Junior High School can be found in the Student Handbook.
Days Absent Per Semester Consequence
0 to 7 No loss in grade
8 to 17 1% loss in final grade per day absent (17 absences
equals the loss of one full grade).
18 to 22 2% loss in final grade per day absent (22 days absent
equals the loss of two full grades)
Over 22 days absent Loss of credit for that class, automatic 'F' grade
