GRADUATION project
TIME REQUIREMENTS
Normally, four years of attendance are required in grades nine through twelve. Since ninth grade begins at Columbia Junior High School, students are required to attend a full six-period day. The state of Washington defines a credit as 150 hours of planned instructional activities. (WAC 180-51-050)
CREDIT REQUIREMENTS
Students will be expected to earn a minimum of twenty-seven (27) credits in order to complete their high school graduation requirements.
At Columbia Jr. High School, one hundred seventy-seven (177) hours of instruction equals one (1) credit. Credit requirements have been increased beyond those of the State Board of Education to assure that students have an opportunity to undertake a broad variety of academic, occupational, cultural and recreational courses. The objective is to substantially enhance the quality of life that students have while beginning their high school journey and during the years to follow.

The plan should be developed in collaboration with the student, parent, and district staff. The plan should include how the student will satisfy the district’s academic credit requirements and the student’s goals for the year following graduation. Each student plan should be reviewed annually to assess student progress, to adjust the plan, and to advise the student on steps necessary for successful completion of the plan.
A Culminating Project:
During the course of their high school career, grades 9 – 12, students shall complete a culminating project representing career and academic research and educational planning for high school and for one year after graduation. (Projects will be assessed using building approved portfolio completion standards.)
