8th Grade LIFE SKILLS
The Student Assistance Program at Columbia Junior High School is conducting a Life Skills curriculum that promotes health and personal development in students. Topics of this curriculum include self-image/self-improvement, decision-making, substance abuse education, media influences, and social skills. The Life Skills classes aim to provide resistance skills to empower youth to make healthy life choices. The curriculum will be integrated into the CJH Earth Science classes and will be taught by Brooks Clergy, CJH School Counselor, Julianne Buffelen, CJH Student Assistance Counselor, and Melodie Kieswether, Counseling Intern. S
Students will be asked to complete a survey reflecting their attitudes and behaviors related to substance use. A second survey will be conducted later in the year as a measure of curricular effectiveness. The survey is completely voluntary. Students are free to opt themselves out. The results of the surveys are confidential and are viewed by school staff only as group data. Surveys are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008.
