African Experience Night

hosted by Endeavour's Kids for Kenya Club

The Kids for Kenya Club hosted a Global Youth Service Event called African Experience Night.  The event began at 6:00 PM with a performance from Hedden Elementary's Drum Ensemble.  We had a dramatic entrance as we played behind the closed stage curtain.  Right on cue, the curtain retreated and we continued playing our songs to a packed room.  The Ensemble did a great job and we were even invited to particpate in an African flag parade.  From 7:00 - 9:00 PM there were many activities for club members to participate in and presentations to listen to.  Ms. Danielson and drummer Nathanial listened to a fantastic storyteller, Eva Abrams.  We plan to re-tell one of her stories in some of our Creative Arts classes.  Mrs. Lewis and many of the drummers enjoyed a sampling of Kenyan foods. Most of the ensemble was able to learn as they explored an inter-active Kenyan daily-living exhibit showing what rural life is like in Kenya.

Thank you to the Kids For Kenya Club and especially the leaders, Mrs. Merdian and Mrs. Cook for the invitation to perform and for allowing us to learn so much!!!  We can't wait until next year!!!
