WOW - Washington State History Fair - 7th Grade Core, Surprise Lake Middle School

Lesson Design:

The 7th grade students were put into groups of 4's. They drew a Washington State city "out of a hat" and were given 4 months to research and discover facts about their city. Each student was required to write 4 letters to their city's municipal departments, museums, businesses, or county seats in order to obtain media materials to aide in their quest. Each student was individually responsible for researching an Area of Expertise (such as city history, economics, points of interest, tourism, jobs, pioneers etc). This topic required extra research. The culmination of the project was a cross curricular event with the 7th grade Science classes. Each city-group had to compile and organize their research. All research was then assembled in a unique and creative form on a tri fold board. The boards were put on display and the students were required to attend and speak about their city at the night time event called "The Washington State History Fair".

Congratulations to the Cle Elem Team for receiving the Superintendent's Award for Excellence! Great job!

Here are some examples of the many excellent projects displayed at the Washington State History Fair.
