We incorporate the Six Traits into our writing. The Six Traits include Ideas, Organization, Voice, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, and Conventions. To see details about each trait, click this link.

During the year we will focus on writing interesting introductions and conclusions. We will have a unit on elaboration showing students how to "show" something, not just "tell" about it. Another unit will deal with "persuasive writing techniques."

An important focus will be on the editing process. Students will edit their own writing and also the work of others. At times your child will ask you to proofread a piece of writing. We encourage this; just make sure your son/daughter is an active part of the process, and not in another room watching TV.

We will write a narrative, expository, and persuasive essay this year.
