Walls That Teach

Key Concepts for Learning:

Students will understand the property of solubility by comparing the solubility of different solutes.

Lesson Design:

Students have measured the solubility of salt:  15g per 50mL water.  Students will measure the solubility of citric acid and compare it to the solubility of salt to determine high and low solubility.

Student Quotes:

“Why is it (citric acid) taking so long to dissolve?”  Dakota

“This takes FORE’VER!”  Julia

“I need a machine to shake it.”  Faitala

“Shake it real good!”  Kienan

“This is never going to saturate.”  Sean & Rachel

“I think we have to keep doing it ‘til it take up the full volume of the bottle.”  Anthony

POUR CITRIC ACID THROUGH FUNNEL INTO BOTTLE.

PUT ON CAP AND SHAKE UNTIL CITRIC ACID DISSOLVES.

NOT SATURATED YET?
