We continued to work on our cityscapes and presented on November 7

Students will use watercolors to create one point perspective of a city scape from a bird's eye point of view.  (see rubric below)

Monday, we finished presenting our Kimono designs, and began our next project....

Theme Art:  Out of Darkness, into the Light  (see rubric below)

Purpose:  You want to enter art into a juried art show that has the theme, Out of Darkness, Into the Light. 

Essential LearningThe student demonstrates thinking skills using artistic processes by applying the creative process (see back of page)  The student communicates through the arts by using the arts to express and present the idea of the Haiku, to communicate for a specific purpose, and develop personal aesthetic criteria to communicate artistic choices. 

Monday:  Conceptualize--To come up with the idea, we brainstormed images that would show darkness into light.

Tuesday:  Gather --We went to the library to research images we can put into our art.

Wednesday:  Develop--We drew out rough draft work, decided what medium to use, and practiced with that medium.

Thursday:  Organize the elements and design qualities in your art

Friday:  Reflection:  Keep asking, "What do I like about my art as I create?  What needs improvment?"  and

               Refine:  Fix what needs improvement.  Repeat the reflection and refinement steps until there's nothing to fix.

Due Wednesday, October 1--Name in Sign Language

Due Friday, October 9--Kimono Design Scratchboard (see lesson plan below)

Purpose:  You’ve just been hired to design a kimono by a wealthy Japanese company.  The company will pay top dollar for a kimono design that is based on an original Haiku.

 

Essential LearningThe student understands and applies art knowledge and skills by developing the skill of using a balance of color, line, and texture patterns in their designs that involve symbols representing their Haiku. They show an understanding and application arts styles from various Japanese artists and culture. The student demonstrates thinking skills using artistic processes by applying the creative process (see back of page)  The student communicates through the arts by using the arts to express and present the idea of the Haiku, to communicate for a specific purpose, and develop personal aesthetic criteria to communicate artistic choices.  The student makes connections within and across the arts to other disciplines, life, cultures, and work by demonstrating and analyzing the connections among the arts and other content areas, understanding that art shape and reflect culture and history, and demonstrating the knowledge of a career in fashion design art.
